Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque said on Saturday BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia would be arrested as soon as the arrest warrant to that end reaches the relevant police station, reports UNB.

"The warrant to arrest Khaleda Zia has not yet reached the police station. We aren't arresting her showing respect to the court. She'll be arrested as soon as the arrest warrant reaches the police station," he said.

The police boss said this while addressing a discussion titled 'The contribution of police in Liberation War and its role in maintaining democracy and human rights at Nawab Nabab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the Dhaka University campus.

About the missing of BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, he said, "Police know nothing about the whereabouts of Salahuddin. We were looking for him, but no law enforcement agency arrested him."

He said there was an attempt in 2013 to break the morale of the forces, but it went in vain.

About the distance between the police and the general people, the IGP said police phobia is the reason. "People have to come forward in this regard."
