The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has asked Bangladesh High Commission in London to closely watch the operations of the companies that are engaged in transferring foreign currency to Bangladesh for avoiding any financial scam like the London-based First Solution Money Transfer Ltd.
The London-based company reportedly closed down all of its branches after misappropriating the huge amount of money remitted by the expatriate Bangladeshis living in the United Kingdom.
"We have already sent a letter to the high commission asking for taking necessary measures in this connection with the authorities concerned of the UK," a BB senior official told the FE Wednesday.
He also said the central bank has asked eight commercial banks, which had drawing arrangements with the company to explain their position in this regard immediately.
Sources, however, said at least two government intelligence agencies have already started their investigation an alleged misappropriation of funds by the money transfer company.
