Maj Ashraf laid to rest with state honour

Major Kazi Ashraf Hossain, one of the army officers killed in the recent BDR mutiny, was laid to eternal rest Thursday with state honour, reports UNB.

He was buried at the Banani Army Graveyard at about 11am, nearly an hour after his Namaj-e-janaza was held at the Army Stadium.

Before the burial, military secretaries to President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed wreaths on the coffin on behalf of the heads of state and government.

Army Chief Gen Moeen U Ahmed, Navy Chief ZU Ahmed and Air Chief Air Vice Marshal Ziaur Rahman also placed wreaths on the coffin.

Chiefs of the three services, army officers, politicians, bereaved family members and cross-section of people joined the state funerals for the martyr.

So far, bodies of 57 victims, including 55 of army officers, killed in the February 25-26 bloody mutiny, have been buried at the Banani Army Graveyard and Cantonment Graveyard.

A total of 71 bodies of army officers and civilians were recovered after the marauding on the premises of BDR Headquarters. Fifty-eight of the dead were army officers and their family members, while four more army officers still remained missing.

Besides, two unidentified bodies, pulled out from mass graves inside the BDR Compound, were still lying at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for DNA test.
