CHATTOGRAM, Nov 20: A man was killed and five others were injured on Thursday afternoon when a vehicle skidded off an expressway and fell onto a busy road in Chattogram's Nimtala area.
The incident occurred around 4:30 pm and caused severe traffic congestion around one of the city's key transport corridors.
Witnesses and police said the SUV veered off the Shahid Wasim Akram Expressway before crashing onto the road below, striking a pedestrian and injuring several others.
The accident brought traffic to a standstill on both sides of the route leading to Chittagong Port.
The victim was identified as Mohammed Shafik, 55, who was walking along Chittagong Port Road when the car plunged from the expressway and struck him. He died on the spot.
Bondor Thana police said the accident occurred on the Lal Khan Bazar-bound lane near Nimtala crossing, and investigators are examining how the vehicle fell from the elevated expressway.
