July 10, 2010 00:00:00

The condition of former BNP secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan has turned critical, reports bdnews24.com.
Two of his physicians reported on Friday morning that Bhuiyan's temperature reached around 102 degrees Celsius around 2am and stayed there.
However, the rise of temperature started again from 7am, and despite continuous attempts by physicians it could not be controlled.
The rise in body temperature is accompanied with a decrease in oxygen intake capability. Earlier, he was being administered 60-80 per cent oxygen through the life support system.
Physicians are being forced to administer 100 per cent oxygen in their bid to keep the politician alive.
Earlier on Thursday night, his physicians said Bhuiyan's body temperature rose after 8pm.
A medical board led by cancer specialist Dr Kamruzzaman was formed around 9pm to keep Bhuiyan under keen observation. The board visited the ailing politician twice in the Intensive Care Unit, where he is being kept on life-support system.
His personal physician Bazlul Gani Bhuiyan told journalists around Friday noon, "The board has changed some of the medications. However, his situation has not improved yet and is in a critical state."
Bhuiyan was admitted to Square Hospital with breathlessness due to lung cancer on Wednesday. The 67-year old politician is on life-support system due to his inability to breathe normally.
The former local government minister was flown back to the country on an air ambulance from Singapore where he went on May 31 for treatment.
The ailing former BNP leader had undergone treatment at the Critical Care Unit (CCU) in Singapore National University Hospital.
His family members said Bhuiyan was given chemotherapy eight times to treat the lung cancer.
Seven of the eight chemotherapy sessions were administered at Singapore, including the last one, after which the politician has been unable to breathe normally.
He had been on artificial respiration for a week.
BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain, deputy leader in parliament and Awami League's acting president Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, AL advisory council member Tofail Ahmed, language veteran Abdul Matin, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh president and a former party colleague Badruddoza Chowdhury had earlier visited Bhuiyan.
Meanwhile, a BNP delegation led by standing committee member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain visited the party's former secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan at Dhaka's Square Hospitals around 11am on Friday.
The delegation stood outside the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and saw Bhuiyan through the glass window.
Following their visit to the ICU, Mosharraf told journalists, "We came to see Mannan Bhuiyan as he is a long-term friend and not as a politician. We, on behalf of BNP, wish for his recovery. We are anxious about his illness."
He praised Bhuiyan and said that the former BNP secretary general was a dedicated politician and freedom fighter. He contributed greatly to BNP in his 11-year tenure as the secretary general.
Talking about Thursday night's standing committee meeting, Mosharraf said, "We informed our party chief of Bhuiyan's latest health condition."
However, in response to a query, the veteran BNP politician said that they did not discuss anything or reached any decision about revoking Bhuiyan's expulsion.
Another standing committee member, MK Anwar added, "Bhuiyan is in a life and death situation. The party's decision will not affect him now. It's not the right time or situation to take a political decision."
Among others present in the BNP delegation were standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and senior joint secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Awami League advisory committee member Amir Hossain Amu, former minister Munsi Fakhrul Islam, chief of the standing committee for power and energy Subid Ali Bhuiyan and some retired secretaries and educationalists visiyhted Bhuiyan in the morning.
