Many citizens rush for home constituencies to cast votes

With the ninth parliamentary polls only a day away, a large number of city dwellers started to leave Dhaka to cast their votes in their respective constituencies through different modes of transports.
Although, the people started to leave the capital a few days back, but the main rush was Saturday and it will continue until today (Sunday).
Saleh Ahmed, a city school teacher told the FE Saturday that he is leaving for Lalmonirhat to exercise his right to franchise.
"Election brings a festive mood, I am enjoying it. As a citizen I want to perform my duty by casting vote to the qualified candidate," he added.
Yunus Ali, a rickshaw puller waiting for catching a train in Kamalapur Station, said he was departing Dhaka for Pirghacha in Rangpur to cast his vote.
Heavy rush of many aspirant voters in casting their votes to their constituencies were seen Saturday at Sayedabad bus terminals, Kamalapur Railway Station and Sadaghat Launch Terminal.
Rezaul Karim, station manager of Kamalapur Railway Station told the FE that they had been facing heavy pressure of passengers for different routes over the past few days that intensified Saturday.
He said: "Another massive rush of passengers might be seen tomorrow (Sunday) as many voters will leave the city after completion of their office duties."
The government has announced December 29 as public holiday.
The station manager said: "Today (Saturday) we are observing heavy rush of passengers, leaving for greater Mymensingh region. Trains in other routes were also filled," he added.
A total of 22 inter-city and eight mail trains leave everyday from Kamlapur station for different destinations across the country.
Shabuddin Milan, vice president of Launch Malik Samity told the FE that all the passenger launches are leaving Sadarghat for different routes in the country with full capacity.
He claimed that on an average 125 passenger launches have been leaving for different coastal districts over the past few days.
One official at Starline, a popular bus service between Dhaka-Feni route said that passengers mostly women were leaving Dhaka in large numbers.
"We saw a huge rush of passengers Saturday morning, the same scene was witnessed on Friday," said a ticket salesman.
The same rush was also noticed in front of different bus counters of Comilla and Brahamanbaria routes.
Officials at Tisha, a sitting bus service between Dhaka and Comilla told the FE that every trip was filled with passengers.
