Metro builder moves to resume 20km work

The metro rail company has initiated to resume work on 20-kilometre open space to build an elevated structure through checking workers' health amid coronavirus.
Sources said contractors have been asked to engage their workers after testing COVID-19 and maintain the time of isolation before their joining the worksite.
Following instructions, the contractors of packages 03, 04, 05 and 06 have already done test on over 400 workers and allowed them to stay in the workers' shed.
Of those tested under contract packages (CP) 03, 04, 05 and 06, five to six per cent workers were found positive for COVID-19.
The workers were not allowed to join. They all used to work in the packages before the coronavirus lockdown.
The positive cases found among Ansar members under these packages have been handled by the authorities concerned.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has taken the steps after almost three months' suspension of work on MRT-06 following restrictions in movement due to lockdown in the country.
Although limited work in the deport area was done, the contractors of the CPs faced the risk of corona infection while doing work along the road from Uttara to Motijheel.
CP-07 work was also done on a limited scale at Diabari depot and in its nearby area but it got hampered for detection of virus infection among 25 workers.
Some 400 staffers under the packages were tested. Among those found positive were two Indian staffers. Sources said they all became negative later.
But DMTCL sources said arrangement is already in place for keeping the workers close to worksites.
A shed has been set up at Agargaon to keep the workers isolated from others.
Among the four MRTs being implemented under the DMTCL, MRT-06 is now under construction to develop the 20-km elevated MRT line at a cost of Tk 220 billion.
