Metro Rail to be launched in 2019

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Sunday informed the House that the Metro Rail will be launched in the capital in 2019 as the project will be completed  ahead of the schedule, report UNB.

The project was initially scheduled for completion in 2024, he said,  adding that after discussions with donor Japan International  Cooperation Agency (JICA), the fresh deadline for completion of the  MRT-6 Line is 2019. "Inshaallah, Metro Rail service would be introduced in the capital by 2019."

The minister said eight tenders would be floated for the project this year while its construction work would go on in full swing in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Quader further said important areas like Dhanmondi would be included in the future MRT projects.
