Metro rail operation on the entire route from Uttara to Motijheel resumed at 8:45 pm on Wednesday.
Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Mohammad Abdur Rouf confirmed it to the FE.
Earlier on the day, the metro rail operation on the Agargaon to Motijheel part of the route was suspended due to displacement of a bearing pad of one pile located in between Farmgate and Bijoy Sarani.
Sources said the train service on the Motijheel-Agargaon part of the Mass Rapid Transit Line 6 (MRT 6) was stopped at 9:40 am after a train operator had reported unusual jerking on the line, due to displacement of the bearing pad at Pier Number 430. They said it took almost the entire day to resolve the problem.
However, train operation on the part from Uttara North to Agargaon was normal.
However, the train service suspension on the southern part caused immense sufferings to commuters as it had happened just before the office hours began.
Many passengers at different stations headed for their destinations using other modes of transport after waiting for half an hour or more. They also suffered due to unavailability of trains after end of the office hours.
The DMTCL MD earlier told the FE that they were trying to fix the problem before the end of the office hours.
However, later he said due to high temperature on the viaduct, placement work on the bearing pad took time.
Finally an official engaged in supervision of the civil work told the FE that after completing work on the bearing pad around 7pm, DMTCL's track, signal and electric teams along with others completed tests around 8pm.
