Mild cold wave sweeping over country

Mild cold wave is sweeping over three northern districts, according to a met office forecast for the next 24 hours commencing 9am Friday, report agencies.
"Mild cold wave is sweeping over the districts of Dinajpur, Panchagarh and Kurigrram and it may abate from some places", it said.
The country was also affected by moderate to thick fog, resulting in disruptions to air navigation and inland river transport. Furthermore, it led to a launch accident in Chandpur.
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.
Moderate to thick fog may continue over the country during Friday midnight to Saturday morning at places over the country. Air navigation, inland river transport and road communication may disrupt due to thick fog.
Night and day temperature may rise slightly over the country. Due to prevailing thick fog, cold day condition may prevail at places over the country.
Country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded 28.7 degree Celsius at Teknaf and minimum temperature Friday was recorded 08.4 degree Celsius at Tetulia.
Ridge of sub continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining northwestern part of Bangladesh. Seasonal low lies over South Bay, extending it's trough to North Bay.
Report from Sylhet adds: Due to dense fog, an international flight destined for Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka has been diverted to Sylhet.
Th US Bangla flight from Dubai arrived in Sylhet Osmani International Airport at 7:40 am on Friday due to the fog. After 50 minutes, the flight left for Dhaka at 8:30 am when the weather became normal.
Raqib Rahman, the manager of Osmani International Airport for US-Bangla Airlines, confirmed the matter.
On Thursday, due to dense fog, five international flights intended for Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka were diverted to Sylhet. After a delay of three hours, those flights proceeded to Dhaka once the weather conditions improved.
On January 2, for the same reason, five flights scheduled to land in Dhaka were redirected to Sylhet Osmani International Airport. Although three of these flights returned to Dhaka the next morning when the weather improved, two aircraft were stuck due to technical issues. The technical problems were later resolved, and both planes also resumed their journey to Dhaka.
Another report adds: Chandpur Dec 5 (UNB) - A woman went missing and a man was injured, after a passenger launch collided with and a cargo ship in the Meghna River in Chandpur, due to reduced visibility caused by dense fog on Thursday night.
The collision left the Barisal-bound MV Sundarbans-16 launch stranded in the middle of the river.
The incident happened at Amirabad area of Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur around 11:30 pm on Thursday.
Chandpur BIWTA Deputy Director Shahadat Hossain confirmed the matteer to UNB.
Mohanpur River Police in-charge Mohammad Moniruzzaman said the cargo ship fled the scene after the incident.
He said Chandpur Sadar and Mohanpur River Police are actively working on-site to rescue and safeguard the passengers affected by the incident. He also mentioned that their efforts have been hindered by the dense fog.
Chandpur River Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kamruzzaman said from the spot on Friday morning said a female passenger went missing in the accident, without providing any details regarding her identity.
The injured person was taken to Chandpur Government General Hospital, he said.
Bashir Ali Khan, deputy director of Chandpur River Security and Traffic Management Department, informed UNB that they are monitoring the passengers' safe arrival at their destinations following the incident.
Sirajul Islam, supervisor of the MV Sundarbans-16 launch, said they have safely anchored the launch in the Amirabad area of the Meghna River.
At around 4 am, MV Sundarbans-15 transported 250 passengers from the affected launch to Barishal.
Dulal, the launch supervisor, reported their arrival at Barishal Launch Ghat around 8 am.
