Sponsor-directors Abdul Awal Mintoo and Moazzam Hossain have been elected chairman and vice-chairman respectively of the trouble-torn National Bank Ltd.
They were elected unanimously at the 505th meeting of the board of directors of the bank on Thursday.
The Bangladesh Bank dissolved the previous board on 20 August 2024 and formed a new board under the 'Bank Company Act 1991 (amended up to 2023).'
Mr Mintoo is a prominent industrialist and business leader in Bangladesh. He is the former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
Additionally, he serves as the chairman of several companies, including Lal Teer Seed Limited, North South Seed Limited and Pragati Life Insurance Limited.
Mr Moazzam is also a leading entrepreneur in the country. Currently, he is the chairman of the Hosaf Group of Companies.
He is the former chairman of National Bank Limited, Pragati Insurance Company Ltd, president of Bangladesh Energy Companies Association, vice-president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, and chairman of Presidency University.
