Finance Adviser AB Mirza Md Azizul Islam Tuesday inaugurated OMNIBUS association that will allow the customers of 13-member banks to have an access to all ATM/POS machines under the same network.
BRAC Bank Ltd and IT Consultants Ltd have rolled-out the country's first ATM (automated teller machine) and POS (point of sale) network under an independent association of member banks namely OMNIBUS.
POS is a devise by which sales transactions can be directly debited too the customer's bank account.
The OMNIBUS has started its journey with 12 member banks including AB Bank Ltd, Eastern Bank Ltd, IFIC Bank Ltd, Jamuna Bank Ltd, Jananta Bank, Mercantile Bank Ltd, Mutual Trust Bank Ltd, National Bank Ltd, Pubali Bank Ltd, Shahjalal Islami Bank Ltd, Sonali Bank and Trust Bank Ltd.
Speaking as chief guest at the launching ceremony, the finance adviser made an earnest appeal to all sections of the society to stand by the cyclone SIDR hit people.
"I will take an opportunity to call upon the individuals and institutions to stand by our fellow citizens and provide all-out support in the form of cash and kind, including construction materials," he said at the launching ceremony of 'OMNIBUS' in Westin Dhaka hotel in the city.
He suggested the bankers for expansion of banking activities through product diversifications.
Speaking as special guest, Fazle Hasan Abed, chairman of BRAC Bank Ltd, urged the government to reduce duty on import of ATM machinery to make electronic banking system available in the country.
He, however, expressed the hope that all other banks will join the OMNIBUS to help their customers get better ATM services.
