Mirza Fakhrul, Amir Khasru get bail

No bar to release

BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and its standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury get bail in a case filed on charge of vandalism of the chief justice's residence during the BNP-police clash on October 28 last year.

One of their lawer said since his clients secured bail in all the cases filed against them, so there is no bar for them to walk out of jail.

Acting Judge of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court in Dhaka, Faisal Atiq Bin Quader, on Wednesday passed the order after holding hearing on their bail petitions in the case.

Lawyers Zainul Abedin, Md Asaduzzaman, Masud Ahmed Talukder and others appeared in the court hearing representing the BNP leaders.

Lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder said, "Both the BNP leaders have already secured bail in other cases filed against them except this one filed on charge of attack on the chief justice's residence. Today (Wednesday) they get bail in the case. As a result now there is no bar for them to get release from jail."

Earlier on February 6 this year, lawyers of the BNP leaders filed fresh petitions seeking bail in the case.

A total of 11 cases were filed against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir over political violence centering BNP's grand rally on October 28 last year.

Earlier he secured bail in 10 cases. In the case filed over the attack on CJ's residence he get bail on Wednesday.

On the other hand, a total of 10 cases were filed against Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury centering the same issues. Earlier, he also secured bail in 9 cases except one filed over the attack on CJ residence.

The Detective Branch of police on October 29 detained Fakhrul from his Gulshan residence. Later he was shown arrested in different cases filed with different police stations in Dhaka including the case filed for attack on the residence of the Chief Justice.
