Former teacher of Dhaka University and bureaucrat Dr Mizanur Rahman Shelley breathed his last on Monday (August 12) at the age of 76.
The prominent academician and writer died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital in Dhaka during treatment.
His body has been kept at Samorita Hospital mortuary. He will be laid to rest at Azimpur graveyard today (Thursday).
Mizanur Rahman Shelley was born in 1943 at Kusumpur village in Munshiganj. He started his career as a teacher of Dhaka University after completing his study from Department of Political Science there.
In 1967 he resigned from Dhaka University, and joined the government service as a member of Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP). He resigned from the government service in 1980.
Dr Shelley also served as a technocrat minister in the cabinet of H M Ershad in 1990. He was appointed as Minister of Ministry of Information and Ministry of Water Resources.
He was the founder chairman of Centre for Development Research, Bangladesh.
He also served as editor of quarterly 'Asian Affairs', advisory editor of weekly 'Sochitro Swadesh', and trust chairman of Bangladesh Times.
Mizanur Rahman Shelley had written books on sociology and politics. In 2008 he received honorary fellowship from Bangla Academy.
He was married to Shelley Rahman, who died in 2016. They have two sons - Arif Ibne Mizan and Tahmid Ibne Mizan.
