Mobile court drive in offing to save rivers

The government will conduct a mobile court drive on the river banks of Buriganga, Sitalakhya, Balu and Turag in Dhaka and the adjoining areas, to remove illegal establishments from there.
The decision was taken at the 25th taskforce meeting on keeping the required depth of the rivers and their normal flow. The meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Shipping on Sunday, said a press release.
Shipping Minister and taskforce president Shajahan Khan presided over the meeting.
The meeting informed that the construction of structures along the Sonai River bank in Habiganj district has been halted. Besides, the High Court wanted to know where they were facing trouble setting up boundary pillars.  
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has removed 4,364 illegal establishments in Dhaka and Narayanganj river port areas since 2010. BIWTA will continue this initiative to remove illegal structures on the river banks.
Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain, Liberation War Minister AKM Mojammel Haque, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, Food Minister Qamrul Islam, State Minister for  Power Nasrul Hamid, Parliamentary Standing Committee chairman on Shipping Ministry Rafiqul Islam, member of parliament Md Haji Selim were present, among others, at the meeting.
