The capital, Dhaka, witnessed moderate rainfall on Thursday evening.

City-dwellers, especially returnees from offices, had to face troubles due to rain that started at around 5:00 pm and lasted till 6:30 pm.

Many took shelter at roadside markets, shopping malls, shops and even under foot- over bridges to save themselves from the splashes of rainwater.

Most of the roads and streets also witnessed traffic gridlocks due to rains.

The shower also triggered off transport crisis at different important intersections in the city, including Gulistan, Purana Paltan, Santinagar, Malibagh, Mouchack, Moghbazar and Farmgate.

For the unavailability of vehicles, those returning home from offices, especially women, were compelled to take either CNG-run auto-rickshaws or rickshaws at higher charges to reach their destinations.

"I had to pay rickshaw driver Tk150 fare to reach my house at Moghbazar from Motijheel," Nazrul Islam, a private bank official, told the FE.

However, vehicular movement came back to normal on the roads and streets at around 8:30 pm.
