The country's money changers said Saturday the government should allow them to deal in the currencies of 19 countries where most Bangladeshi expatriates live.
Currently, the money changers are allowed to transact three currencies like euro, sterling pound and US dollar.
Addressing a press conference at the National Press Club, leaders of the money changers' organisation said reforms in the government's foreign exchange policy are necessary to stop smuggling of foreign currencies.
They also said introduction of computer slip and electronic cash voucher system can also help stop smuggling of money.
The BMCA leaders alleged that around Tk 2.0 billion worth of remittance is being smuggled out due to lack of time-befitting policy.
Tafazzal Hossain, General Secretary of Bangladesh Money Changers Association (BMCA) said buying and selling procedures of currencies should be made simple.
"We want progressive foreign currency policies like the policies prevailing in Singapore, Hong Kong, India, China and the United Arab Emirates," the BMCA general secretary added.
BMCA president Md Mizanur Rahman and other senior leader of the organisation were present at the press conference.
