The Mongla Customs House (MCH) will soon float a bid to auction 802.95 metric tonnes of urea fertiliser that remained stockpiled in the port jetty, sources in the revenue board in Dhaka said.
"We have asked the MCH to go for auction as Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) expressed its reluctance to receive it, an official of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said.
He further said the MCH was asked to speed up the auction process following the shortage of urea fertiliser in some parts of the country.
The NBR official said MCH is expected to offer bid to auction by this week.
Enlisted bidders with the MCH could participate in the auction while it will be awarded to the highest rate offering party, he said.
When asked, he said such a huge quantity of urea fertiliser was seized while being smuggled out across the boarder.
Apart from this, he said, 8000 bales of cottons and 10,000 bundles of corrugated iron sheet would also be offered for the bid to auction soon.
