The ministry of planning (MoP) will take steps to enhance capacity and efficiency of their officials, engaged in other government agencies, for improvement in preparation, design and implementation of development projects.
"We will arrange trainings for the officials, especially for different technical and purchase-related projects, to build up their capacity to implement the development projects timely and by ensuring quality," Planning Minster AHM Mustafa Kamal said.
He was speaking at a press conference at the Planning Commission in the capital after a meeting with the chiefs of the ministry's planning and development wings and officials involved with 55 other ministries and divisions in implementing projects.
Mr Kamal also emphasised adopting expertise of the private sector in respective areas of the government's development projects to get better outcome.
"Size of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) increased four times during the last six years. Against the backdrop of this growing ADP volume, we need to enhance capacities from all sides, which requires continuous training arrangements for the officials. The officials also sought trainings."
The planning ministry itself will arrange some of the trainings, and outsource some others for the officials, he added.
At the meeting, the planning ministry officials, involved in implementing 1,287 projects under the current ADP, discussed and shared their experiences and ideas with the minister.
They also informed him about the latest stage of the ongoing development projects.
Following a query, the minister said despite the ongoing political turmoil, ADP implementation rate in the last eight months of this fiscal is better than that of the corresponding period of the previous year.
Detailed figures about the ADP execution will be disclosed tomorrow (March 10).
"None of the wing chiefs says that they are being affected or impeded by political turmoil in implementing development projects," Mr Kamal said.
The government is satisfied with the ADP implementation trend of this fiscal, he said in reply to another query. He expected that like the previous year, 95 per cent of the ADP will be implemented this year.
The planning minister focused on the significance of role of the development and planning wing chiefs, who act as bridges between the line ministry and the planning ministry in project preparation, approval and implementation.
He instructed them to prevent all types of waste in project implementation by taking quick decision at every stage as well as to materialize the projects timely.
Mr Kamal further said Sunday's meeting is a new type of meeting. Ideas and experiences shared by the officials at the meeting will significantly facilitate the government to design more beneficial and feasible projects in the next years.
