Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered again a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including three machine guns, four spare barrels and eight magazines, from a jungle at Satchhari, near the Indian border, in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj district Thursday morning, reports UNB.
RAB headquarters sources said a RAB team comprising RAB-9 and RAB intelligence members started the drive in the jungle at Satchhari reserve forest and its surrounding areas Wednesday afternoon and recovered the arms and ammunition Thursday. This was the fourth drive of the elite force in the jungles.
Earlier, in three drives -- first one on June 3, second one on September 2 and the third one on September 17 -- the crime busters recovered huge arms and ammunitions from the jungles.
The recovered firearms had included over 300 rocket launchers, huge anti-tank explosives, mortar shells, chargers of rocket launchers, nine SMGs, one SNC, one beta gun, one auto rifle, six SLRs, two LMGs, one slipper stereoscope sight and 2,400 rounds of bullet.
Another report adds: members of RAB in another drive in Chapainawabganj recovered nine crude bombs from Ramchandrapur in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday night.
Assistant police super Khaleda Begum (operation officer) of Rab-5 said a tense situation had been prevailing in Ramchandrapur for the last few days between two groups over establishing supremacy in the area.
Apprehending that a clash between the two groups might break out any time, a team of RAB-5 launched a drive in the area around 12:30am and recovered the bombs and gunpowder abandoned near the hat, said Khaleda Begum.
They also recovered 59 crude bombs and some homemade arms from Ramchandrapur and nearby areas over the last three days, she said.
