KUSHTIA, July 4 (UNB): Fourteen truckloads of 'substandard' wheat imported from Brazil could not be stored at the Kumarkhali godown on Saturday due to obstruction by a local MP.
Witnesses said when the wheat, brought from Khulna divisional food godown, was being unloaded from trucks for stockpiling at the Kumarkhali godown around 11:30 am, Awami League MP (Kushtia-4) Abdur Rouf along with the local people resisted the move claiming the wheat had been substandard and unfit for consumption. Rouf said, "As I found the wheat substandard, I didn't allow it to be stored in the godown. We won't receive the wheat without test."
