MPs have not paid more than Tk 11 million in phone bills until 2011-12 and the government phone company has not heard from them despite repeated reminders, reports UNB.
The Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) was asked to adjust the dues through the Parliament Secretariat when the issue came up at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts on Sunday.
BTCL is yet to get phone bills of a little over Tk 11.4 million from the MPs in dues until 2011-12 fiscal year, according to the minutes of the meeting.
The company has not cut the MPs' phone connections considering their importance.
Besides other allowances, the MPs get Tk 7,800 a month to pay phone bills. The amount was Tk 6,000 before 2016 and Tk 4,000 in 2001.
