Muggers took away Tk 280,000 (Tk 0.28 million) after shooting a security guard of an apparel factory in the capital's Hazipara area Monday afternoon, police and officials concerned said.
The security man, identified as Belayet Hossain of Bonny Apparels (Pvt) Limited was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
Sub-inspector of Ramna Model Police Station Imadadul Haque confirmed the shooting incident, saying that it took place at about 2:25pm on DIT Road of Rampura where the apparel manufacturing unit is housed.
Citing factory officials and other security men of the unit, he said a group of four miscreants intercepted Belayet in front of the factory and shot at his thigh before snatching the amount from him.
"He (the victim) was carrying the money to the factory for disbursement of wages of the workers," he said, adding that they have started working to nab the culprits.
When contacted, Commercial Manager of Bonny Apparels Md. Zahid Hasan said he along with four security men dividing into three teams were carrying an amount of Tk 1.48 million (Tk 1,480,000) to disburse salary in three apparel units.
"I was in the front with Tk 1.0 million while Belayet was in the middle when the criminals launched the attack," he said, adding that they managed to clear wages of 300 workers of its unit-1.
