The visiting British lawmakers at a meeting with finance minister AMA Muhith discussed Wednesday the UK government's possible areas of cooperation for accelerating economic growth of Bangladesh.
"We have discussed issues relating to development of energy sector, enhancement of revenue for the sake of increasing the economic growth of Bangladesh," Malcolm Bruce, leader of the British lawmakers, told newsmen after the meeting at the secretariat.
Mr Bruce, who is chair of the UK's international development committee, said they also discussed overseas funding support to fight the impact of climate change.
"We are providing assistance, through the UK's Department for International Development (DFID), to Bangladesh for different development activities including reduction of poverty," he said.
Responding to a query as to whether or not the UK government has initiated steps to find out any irregularities in utilisation of the DFID assistance, Mr Bruce said: "There is a permanent committee to look into the matter.
Another British MP told the newsmen that the UK authorities assumed that the DFID-assisted projects were running perfectly well.
He said: "We have just come here to see the DFID-aided projects physically as the assistance comes from the British taxpayers."
