Finance Minister AMA Muhith has requested the visiting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to introduce direct banking channel between the two countries to accelerate bilateral trade.
The request to the Turkish Prime Minister was made when he met him at Sonargaon Hotel Saturday night, Muhith told UNB after the meeting.
Muhith informed Erdogan that US$ 1.0 billion credit which was given for private sector during the Turkish Prime Minister's visit to Dhaka last year remained unutilised. He requested him whether the credit can be diverted to the government as 'line of credit.'
Erdogan said his country has expertise in construction and power sector and Bangladesh can utilise their expertise for development of these sectors.
Replying to a question Muhith said: "If they want it, we would encourage them."
