Multiple fires break out in Dhaka

Three separate fire incidents occurred in Dhaka on Monday, causing panic and destruction in different parts of the city. Fortunately, no major casualties were reported in the incidents.

A fire broke out around 7:30 pm on the fifth floor of a 9-storey building in the Katabon area of Dhaka and soon spread, said Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.

On information, nine fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and were trying to bring the blaze under control, he added.

No casualties were reported until the filing of this report around 9:30pm.

Another official said the cause of the fire and the extent of damages could be ascertained after an investigation.

Earlier on the day, a fire broke out at Shattola slum in Dhaka's Mohakhali area, reports UNB.

The fire broke out at the slum around 6:48 am. On information, nine firefighting units reached the spot at around 7 am, said Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of the fire service and civil defence media cell.

The fire was brought under control at around 8:10 am and doused at 9:38 am. No death or injuries have been reported so far in the fire. On Monday afternoon, a fire broke out at Sweeper Colony under the Hanif flyover near Dhaka's Kaptan Bazar. The fire broke out around 3:20 am on Monday. Seven firefighting units managed to douse the blaze around 4:30 am.

Quoting Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of the fire service and civil defence headquarters media cell, UNB reported that three people suffered burn injuries from the blaze.
