RAWALPINDI, Nov 28 (Agencies): An emotional Pervez Musharraf stepped down as Pakistan's military commander Wednesday, a key step in his plan to continue as a civilian president and defuse a dangerous political crisis.
Musharraf relinquished his post at a change of command ceremony in the garrison town of Rawalpindi near the capital, Islamabad, by handing over his ceremonial baton to his successor, Gen. Ashfaq Kayani.
The handover of military power to Gen. Ashfaq Kayani ends Musharraf's nine years as chief of the army staff.
