Myanmar's Home Minister Lt Gen Kyaw Swe arrived in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon on a three-day visit when Bangladesh is expected to press for restoration of peace and stability in Rakhine State for sustainable return of Rohingyas, reports UNB.
He landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by a Thai Airlines flight around 12:48pm, an official told the news agency.
Swe will hold a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Asaduzzaman Khan today (Friday).
Apart from the Rohingya crisis, the two sides will discuss halting smuggling in arms and drugs and full implementation of their border agreement, officials said.
Bangladesh is likely to ask Myanmar to take effective measures to stop narcotics production and smuggling and put an end to drug trafficking across the border.
Our Correspondent in Cox's Bazar adds: The influx of the Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar to Bangladesh still continued despite a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) signed between the two countries on repatriation of those who arrived earlier.
According to Bangladesh-Myanmar border sources, at least 540 new Rohingyas entered Bangladesh through different points of Teknaf in three days since Tuesday.
With this, over the last seven days at least 900 Rohingya refugees crossed into Bangladesh from Myanmar at the Noakhalia Para, Sabrang and Sahporir Dip of Teknaf upazila crossing the Naf river.
With this, about 7,00,000 Rohingyas entered Bangladesh from Myanmar since August 25 last year.
UNO of Teknaf Mohammad Jahid Hossain Siddiq said that influx of Rohingyas did not stop despite an MOU sign between the two countries.
The MOU was signed between Bangladesh and Myanmar governments on November 23 last year to start the repatriation process of Rohingya refugees.
Newly-arrived Rohingyas said at present there is no peaceful environment in the villages of Rakhine state of Myanmar as military and Buddhist terrorists jointly continued persecution silently of Rohingyas.
