Mymensingh Municipality to become city corpn

After declaring Mymensingh as a divisional headquarters, the government has now decided to upgrade the municipality to a city corporation, reports bdnews24.com.
The National Implementa- tion Committee for Administrative Reorganisa-tion or NICAR, headed by the prime minister, cleared the proposal on Monday.
A proposal to extend the boundaries of the Mymensingh Municipality, established in 1869, did not get the green light, said Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
"But Mymensingh will be turned into a city corporation, as it is a divisional headquarters," he told reporters at the Secretariat.
In 2015, Mymensingh was declared the eighth administrative division of the country.
It consists of four districts-Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrokona.
In August, a new education board, the 11th in the country, was formed to monitor secondary and higher secondary level institutions in the districts under the division.
