National University announces over Tk 1.23b budget

The National University Saturday announced a budget involving more than Tk 1.23 billion (123 crore) for the 2007-08 financial year showing a surplus of over Tk 1.17 million, reports UNB.
Pro-Vice Chancellor and Treasurer Dr Jamal Uddin Ahmed placed the budget in the Senate meeting at Academic Bhaban, Gazipur, with Vice Chancellor Dr Wakil Ahmed in the chair.
Revenue expenditure was estimated at Tk 735.3 million and development expenditure Tk 497.1 million. Some 96 per cent or Tk 479.7 million of the development expenditure will come from the university's own income while the remaining amount from the government. Speaking on the occasion Dr Wakil urged all concerned to reach consensus on the system and policy of the country's education. He said the students should be imparted genuine education to make them honest, efficient and patriot capable of building up the nation.
Colleges and universities should be the centre of excellence to develop human resources who would make the country prosperous and happy, added the vice-chancellor.
