The parliamentary standing committee on public accounts asked Thursday the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to consider filing appeals with the High Court (HC) after examining the judgments of a tribunal relating to Tk 1.72 billion income tax-related audit objections against five banks.
The committee also sought a report on progress of steps taken for quick settlement of audit objections involving Tk 837.2 million of various banks to the committee via the audit office by increasing contacts with the Attorney General's Office.
The committee made the recommendations at its 21st meeting at the Sangsad Bhaban (parliament building).
It discussed in detail sections 01 to 11 of audit objections of the reports of FY 2007-2008 and FY 2008-2009 of the Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh (CAG) and recommended implementation of all the decisions in time. Committee chairman Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir chaired the meeting.
Besides, the committee suggested settling of the audit objection of Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd on evasion of Tk 38.63 million income tax by showing less net sales.
Committee members Abdus Shahid, Mohammad Aman Ullah, Panchanan Biswas, AFM Ruhal Haque, Begum Rebeka Momin, Shamsul Haque Tuku, Rustam Ali Farazi and Begum Wasika Ayesha Khan were present, among others, in the meeting.

It recommended payment of compensation to the tannery owners as running bills.
