The leaders of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Taxation Association, the organization which looks after how to improve taxpayers' service in Bangladesh, on Thursday sought a new appointment of the chairman of National Board of Revenue from their senior members.
"Direct intervention of the Internal Resources Division and selection of an inexperienced officer as the NBR chairman has been found as major impediments to make the revenue board vibrant," a press statement from the BCS Taxation Association said.
The association leaders urged the newly formed interim government to refrain from using the NBR as a political tool.
BCS Taxation Association's Secretary General Sheikh Shamim Bulbul and President Md Lutful Azeem, and BCS Customs and VAT Association's Secretary General AKM Nurul Huda Azad, and President Dr Md Shahidul Islam issued two separate statements.
With the existing administrative structure, it is difficult to revamp economy and reform the NBR has professional, skilled and modernized entity.
The taxmen are working amid several hindrances to mobilize domestic revenue.
BCS Customs and VAT Association also sought expedition of the pending promotions, expansions, ending the current charge provision, introducing customs and VAT uniform among other demands.
