The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has published the official English version of the Income Tax Act, 2023, responding to demands from foreign investors seeking greater clarity in the application of tax laws.
Foreign investors had expressed concerns over potential misinterpretation and legal complications arising from the original Bangla version of the law.
The NBR issued a gazette notification on Saturday to make the English text officially available.
The Income Tax Act 2023, originally published in Bangla, replaced the Income Tax Ordinance of 1984. Since its enactment, foreign investors have repeatedly called for publication of an authentic English version to eliminate confusion.
In a press statement, the NBR said that making the English version available will help both local and foreign investors gain a clearer understanding of the law. This, it added, will boost taxpayers' confidence and ensure transparency and accuracy in tax compliance.
The revenue authority also said that work is underway to publish the authentic English texts of the Customs Act, 2023, and the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012, through a government gazette.
This move will address a longstanding demand from businesses and investors for English versions of key tax laws.
