The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken steps to launch a massive campaign in six divisional cities to familiarise use of Electronic Cash Register (ECR).
As per government's order, installation of ECR made mandatory for all medium and small business houses under city corporation areas from January 1, 2009. Businesses and shops in district towns will have to install ECR by July 2009.
"We have started organising fortnightly campaign from today (Monday) in six divisions across the country to gear up efforts of businesses on introduction of ECR," said NBR chairman Muhammad Abdul Mazid
Six seminars, workshops and several exchange sharing meetings have been held with stakeholders, dokan malik samity, chambers and business community on introduction of ECR, he said.
After visiting Chittagong metropolitan areas on Monday, the NBR chairman has expressed his satisfaction over significant progress made on the installation of ECR. Two vendors of ECR have organised promotional campaign in Chittagong.
"Progress of introduction of ECR in Chittagong metropolitan areas is encouraging. I have found around 1900 big and medium installations ready for introducing ECR within the government's given timeframe," the NBR chief said.
The NBR chairman Monday visited Chittagong to inaugurate training programme for newly recruited BCS customs assistance commissioners at Sagarika road.
