The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will devise new strategies to collect maximum amount of taxes and strengthen tax administration, said its newly-appointed chairman Nojibur Rahman.
The revenue board will ensure a people-friendly tax administration instead of imposing tax burden on them, he said.
Responding to a question from newsmen on upcoming challenges, he said every challenge creates an opportunity.
Mr Rahman took over the rein of the NBR and Internal Resources Division (IRD) secretary on Tuesday. Tenure of its former chairman Ghulam Hussain expired on January 8.
Talking to the reporters on NBR premises, he vowed to follow the 'carrot and stick' policy for the tax officials.
After taking charge as the NBR chief in the middle of the fiscal year (FY), Mr Rahman said change of an individual will not leave any impact on the organisational structure of NBR.
Prior to his latest appointment, he was secretary to Ministry of Environment and Forests.
Mr Rahman served in Statistics and Informatics Division under Ministry of Planning, and also in Bangladesh Permanent Mission to UN in New York. He was also director general (DG) of Department of Environment.
He completed Masters in Development Administration in 1999 from Australian National University (ANU), Canberra.
