NBR's CIC raids Benazir's resort

FE REPORT | January 22, 2025 00:00:00

The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) conducted a raid on Tuesday at Savana Eco Park and Resort owned by former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.

Md Tariq Iqbal and Wakil Ahmed, two CIC directors, led the 15-member team.

CIC Deputy Director Shah Md Fazle Rahi said the CIC has suspected tax evasion based on some confirmed information prior to the raid.

Officials of the Public Works Department, AC land, representatives of the Department of Agricultural Extension, and Department of Fisheries have accompanied the CIC team and they will submit survey report to support the investigation, he added.

CIC officials said they received information on former IGP's undisclosed income and their team also collected and examined data from the resort's computers.

Benazir Ahmed invested in the resort while he was serving as the director general of RAB from 2015 to 2020 and IGP from 2020 to 2022.

The resort and park is situated on 621 bighas of land in Bairagitol village of Gopalganj.

The company tax file of Benazir has concealed a huge investment that was made filling up the low land.

The CIC officials have found no approval of the local city corporation to build the structure designed by Singaporean architects, according to CIC.

Wife and two daughters of Benazir are the directors of the resort, the official said.
