FE REPORT | November 15, 2025 00:00:00

A delegation of the National Citizen Party (NCP) met the visiting International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission at the InterContinental Dhaka on Friday for a courtesy and policy discussion.

They expressed gratitude to the IMF for its continued support to Bangladesh during this critical period and for providing a clear reform roadmap.

The NCP emphasised these reforms were essential for the country's sustainable development, according to a statement issued on Friday.

During the meeting, the IMF expressed concerns regarding Bangladesh's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, revenue mobilisation, revenue-to-GDP ratio, distressed assets, and youth employment.

The NCP representatives acknowledged these challenges and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing revenue digitalisation, supporting the ongoing financial sector reforms, and addressing concerns about the slow implementation of certain reform measures.

The discussion also covered how the kleptocracy under the previous regime emerged, its impact on the economy and governance, and the structural measures needed to prevent such corruption in the future.

Other key topics included reducing the size of the informal economy, ensuring good governance and transparency, and facilitating a smooth and peaceful transition of power from the interim to the elected government.

Both the NCP and the IMF expressed optimism for a more resilient Bangladesh, powered by the hard-working and resilient people of the country.

The IMF delegation included Chris Papageorgiou, mission chief for Bangladesh; Maximum Kryshko, resident representative, Dhaka; and Tawhid Ilahi, deputy secretary and economic analyst.

From the NCP, Javed Rasin, joint convenor and lead, Industry and Commerce Cell; Md Sultan Mohammed Zakaria, lead, Foreign Affairs Cell; Alauddin Mohammad, joint member secretary and co-lead, Foreign Affairs Cell; Abdullah Al Mamun Faisal, organiser and co-lead, Industry and Commerce Cell; and Md Abdullah Al Faisal, joint chief coordinator and member, Industry and Commerce Cell; attended the meeting.
