Nearly 3.0m receive jabs Death toll hits 8,400

With administering the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccines to 133,833 more individuals on the seventeen day of the nationwide inoculation programme, the total number of vaccinated people reached almost 3.0 million-mark in the country, officials said.

A total of 2,984,773 adults have so far been vaccinated across the country while the number of registered people to get jabs has crossed 4.2 million as of February 27, 2021.

Of the vaccinated people, 1,937,026 were male and 1,047,747 were female, according to the official data.

The data also showed that 895,394 people received jabs in Dhaka division, followed by Chattogram division (657,070), Khulna division (366,100), Rajshahi division (332,031), Rangpur division (273,973), Sylhet division (187,059), Barishal division (142,151) and Mymensingh division (130,995).

Some 711 receivers out of the vaccinated people have also reported AEFI (adverse events following immunisation) as per statistics of the state-run Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

However, 407 more people were infected with coronavirus across the country in the last 24 hours ending at 8:00 am on Saturday, bringing the overall tally of confirmed cases to 545,831.

The DGHS health bulletin issued on the day stated that the latest infections came following dedicated medical screening of 12,189 samples during the last 24-hour period.

Simultaneously, five more people died of Covid-19 in last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the respiratory disease to 8,400.

All victims were male who died while undergoing treatment in hospitals, according to the bulletin.

"The death and infection rates stood at 1.54 per cent and 13.54 per cent respectively," it added.

In terms of recovery, 609 more infected people recovered from the respiratory disease caused by the deadly virus. With the latest figures, the total number of recoveries rose to 406,107.
