The National Economic Council (NEC) Thursday sent back the draft of the second PRSP for 2008-2011 term for further revision of some issues, mainly concerning the present situation of gas supply and oil price, reports UNB.
Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmad, who chaired the meeting, asked authorities concerned to submit their revised proposals by September 15 so that they could be accommodated in the final PRSP (poverty reduction strategy paper).
The general economic division would scrutinise and accommodate the revisions before placing the final draft of the PRSP again with the NEC for its approval, Planning Secretary Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury told a press briefing after the meeting.
He said the new three-year PRSP would be effective from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2011, carrying on the combat against poverty under a UN-designated world mission for the poorer countries.
He said the NEC members would forward new suggestions on various sectors and sub-sectors to update in accordance with the present economic situation at both home and abroad.
The donor-prescribed three-year first PRSP was adopted in October 2005 during the immediate-past BNP-led alliance rule, which was extended up to June 2008.
Mr Jafar said the second PRSP preparation process went through a consultation process on 18 thematic areas.
Following the NEC meeting, the Chief Adviser of the caretaker government also chaired the ECNEC meeting that approved 12 projects - four new and eight revised.
The projects are: Contraction of jails in three districts (Tk 20 million), construction of infrastructure in Upazila headquarters (Tk 2.14 billion), Upazila road development (Tk 5.10 billion), district town infrastructure (Tk 2.10 billion), Amin Bazar sanitary land field (Tk 640 million), revised primary education stipend (Tk 47.53 billion), transparent ballot box (Tk 460 million), Chars livelihood (Tk 6.67 billion), economic empowerment of the poorest (Tk 8.86 billion), Health, Nutrition and Population Sector Programme (HNPSP) (Tk 373.84 billion), construction of regional passport offices in different districts (Tk 320 million).
The HNPSP was worth Tk 324.50 billion for the period of 2003-2011, but later the government increased its amount this year.
