New notes worth Tk 160b soon

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has decided to release new bank notes before Eid to meet the growing demand for currencies ahead of the festival, reports bdnews24.com.
Apart from that the central bank will also supply notes and coins of smaller denominators worth Tk 50 billion.
BB also planned to open 20 counters in various banks in addition to 27 counters in various banks of divisional cities to ensure smooth supply of new currencies. There will be many counters in future including seven VIP counters, of which one will be at the Motijheel office of BB.
ED of central bank's Currency Management Department Asim Kumar Dasgupta told about BB's Eid currency plan to the news agency. He also said that the supply of new currency would begin from July 7.
BB has also instructed banks to check authenticity of the new notes to prevent circulation of counterfeit currency.
People will have to collect new currencies in lots. A client will have to pay Tk 5,000 for each lot. The lot will contain one bundle of Tk 20 notes, one bundle of Tk 10, three bundles of Tk 5, one bundle of Tk 2, 100 coins of Tk 5, 100 coins of Tk 2 and 100 coins of Tk 1.
New counters will be opened at the following branches: Sadarghat branch of Pubali Bank, Jatrabari branch of National Bank, New Market branch of Janata bank, Eliphant Road branch of Agrani Bank, Banani branch of Mercantile Bank, Malibagh branch of Prime Bank, Karwan Bazaar branch of South East Bank, Basundhara City branch of Social Islami Bank, Chowk Bazaar branch of Uttara Bank, Ramna branch of Sonali Bank, Bashabo branch of One Bank, Mirpur branch of Prime Bank, Gulshan branch of IFIC bank, SME and agricultural unit Dakshin Khan branch of Dutch-Bangla Bank, Dhanmondi branch of Bank Asia, Shyamoli branch of Islami Bank, Uttara branch of Dhaka Bank, Mohammadpur branch of First Security Bank, Mohakhali branch of Rupali Bank and Abdul Gani Corporate branch of Janata Bank.
Besides, five branches of various banks in Chittagong, Khulna and Sylhet will have the new currency counter.
