Offices of all the government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions will function between 9:00am and 3:30pm from Sundays to Thursdays during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
Besides, there will be a 15-minute break for prayer from 1:15 to 1:30pm on all working days.
The Council of Advisers fixed the new office timings at its weekly meeting Saturday with the Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair, an official handout said.
Held at the Chief Adviser's Office, the meeting also decided that banks, post and telecommunication department, railway, hospitals, state-run industries would re-schedule the office timings according to their own rules and regulations for the month of Ramadan, it mentioned.
The meeting also gave its approval to the proposal for the ratification of the agreement on establishment of a South Asian University (SAU).
The 13th summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) had approved, in principle, the proposal for setting up the SAU with a view to enhancing higher education facilities in the South Asian region, the handout said.
It further said the foreign ministers of the SAARC countries had signed the agreement on establishment of the University during the 14th conference of the SAARC, held in New Delhi in April 2007.
Discussing the Bangladesh Television Authority Act-2001, the meeting asked the Information Ministry to place it again before the Council of Advisers after scrutinising the proposed law.
Besides, the Ministry of Agriculture made a presentation to the council meeting on proper utilisation of fertilisers, especially urea, through testing the soil conditions with a view to boosting the country's crop production, the handout added.
