Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal Monday said the size of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the next fiscal year (2015-16) would be Tk1.0 trillion.
"We will keep aside Tk200- Tk250 billion allocations for mega projects in next year's ADP with a view to smooth implementation of the same," he told journalists after a meeting at the Planning Commission (PC) in the city.
But the finance ministry in its budgetary allocation for the next financial year (FY) 2015-16 has proposed to keep aside Tk 920 billion for the next ADP.
The planning minister sat with the officials of top 10 ministries receiving the major part of development fund allocations, and 10 poor performers to review their project execution status at the PC in the city Monday.
State minister for finance and planning MA Mannan, planning secretary Shofiqul Azam, Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division secretary Shahidullah Khandker, PC member Arastoo Khan and officials from the ministries concerned were present at the meeting.
Mr Mustafa Kamal said funds will be allocated in the coming ADP on the basis of performance of the ministries and other state agencies.
He asked the ministries and the IMED to strengthen the project implementation capacity so that the fund is allocated properly and their utilisation is ensured.
The planning minister said the government has a plan to expand school buildings of the capital city vertically (15-20 storied) to increase seats for students.
"The schools in the villages will also be built up to 4-storey to accommodate more students," he added.
He also said the government from now on would appoint one officer for one development project as director. "An officer will not be able to become the project director for more than one project," Mr Kamal said.
