NARAYANGANJ, Apr 9 (Agencies): Senior Judicial Magistrate in the district will hold a hearing on May 11 to decide whether it would admit chargesheets against 35 people in the sensational seven-murder in Narayanganj and order the start of trial.
The chargesheets were filed Wednesday in two cases with Senior Judicial Magistrate Chandni Rupam's court, Additional Public Prosecutor KM Fazlur Rahman said.
Detectives have pressed charges against 35 people, including three sacked Rab officials -- Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana -- and Nur Hossain, in connection with the murder case.
Officer-in-charge of district Detective Branch (DB) of police Inspector Mamunur Rashid Mondal, also the investigation officer of two cases filed over the gruesome multiple murders, submitted charge sheet before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court Wednesday afternoon.
Of the charge-sheeted accused, 21 are former or present members of Rapid Action Battalion. Of the accused, 13 are still at large.
A total of 16 people -- five FIR-named and 11 arrestees -- were exempted from the murder charges. However, Nazrul Islam's wife Selina Islam said she would contest the chargesheets in court for leaving out five others.
