The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Wednesday received the statement of former principal secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Dr Kamaluddin Siddiqui by post in connection with the GATCO scam case, filed against former premier Khaleda Zia and 12 others, reports UNB.
Earlier, investigation officer of the case and ACC Deputy Director Jahirul Huda contacted Siddiqui, now in the UK, and asked him to send his statement in this regard.
Besides, the investigating team Wednesday questioned nine more individuals, including a former and an incumbent secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), bureaucrats and four GATCO officials, in connection with the container-handling case.
The investigating team, comprising Taskforce-23 officer Major Mostafa Kamal, Jahirul Huda and CID inspector Nurul Islam, questioned them separately at the ACC headquarters.
Those quizzed are former CPA secretary Momin, incumbent secretary Farhaduddin Ahmed and deputy director Liakat, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Department assistant director Tariqul Omar, Planning Commission assistant director Hanim Saqlain, and GATCO project director Abdul Hye, director Faisal Haider and operators Abdul Azim and Moazzem Hossain.
ACC has already questioned Khaleda, seven former ministers, six retired secretaries and one serving additional secretary of the Communications Ministry in connection with the high-profile case. Many other individuals were also questioned in this regard.
On September 2, ACC Deputy Director Golam Shahriar Chowdhury filed the case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko and 11 others for their alleged irregularities in awarding the container-handling contract to GATCO.
