Sharmin Shahrier Ferdous, elder sister of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, filed a case against nine people over the killing of Sinha on Marine Drive Road in Teknaf, report agencies.

The case was filed with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, said senior lawyer Mohammad Mostafa.

Suspended Inspector Liakat Ali of Baharchhara police outpost and Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das were among the accused.

Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah asked the authorities concerned to submit the probe report within seven working days.

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) will investigate the case.

Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31.

Two people were arrested and two separate cases were filed in this regard, Superintendent of Police ABM Masud Hossain said Saturday.

The Home Ministry formed a four-member committee, headed by Mizanur Rahman, additional divisional commissioner (development), on August 2.

The authorities on Sunday suspended 21 police officers, including the in-charge of Baharchhara police outpost, in connection with the killing.

Bdnews24.com adds: The chiefs of the army and the police appeared together in a rare news conference on Wednesday and described the recent killing of former Major Sinha Md Rashed Khan in police firing as "an isolated incident".

Speaking at an army bungalow in Cox's Bazar, Army chief General Aziz Ahmed and Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed reassured the citizens that the forces have confidence in each other.

They warned against the incident being used to incite distrust between the army and the police, and said no cracks have appeared in their relationship.

They said the people responsible for the incident will face punishment but their agency will not be held responsible.
