No scope of controversy over newspapers' digital contents, feels Editors' Council

FE Report | June 12, 2022 00:00:00

The Editors' Council said on Saturday that the progress of newspapers lies in the combination of print and digital contents as the digital revolution has created a new challenge for the industry globally.

Under such circumstances, the print media around the world continued their efforts to retain their readers and expand their reader-base by adding new digital contents, the council in a press release said.

It mentioned that Information and Broadcas-ting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud recently said

daily newspapers were violating the conditions of their declaration by hosting talk shows on their online platforms.

The statement said the government started the online news portal registration process for the dailies considering importance of the digital platforms. It has already approved more than 100 online news portals, including online editions of the newspapers.

It said the print media had to adapt to the adverse situation created by the Covid-19 pandemic. People now expect new audio-visual contents that include interviews, features, and analysis along with print contents.

The Editor's Council believes that there is no scope to create any controversy over publishing digital contents on the online platforms of newspapers.

Although print media is still the most trusted medium for the readers, the web portals and social media of the newspapers should have to be considered in parallel as well, it said.
