Additional inspector general of police Md Shahabuddin Khan assured traders on Wednesday of keeping cattle (sacrificial animals) carrying trucks free from illegal toll collection ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
He said that cattle carrying vehicles or trucks must mention their respective destinations on their front and back sides.
He gave the assurance during a meeting with the cattle traders at the APBN headquarters in the capital's Uttara area.
The meeting also discussed how to keep the roads free from traffic jams ahead of the upcoming festival.
Responding to a query from a trader, Md Shahabuddin Khan, also chief of highway police, said that the volunteers at the cattle markets must not force the vehicles to offload sacrificial animals at their respective cattle markets. Rather they must allow the cattle carrying vehicles/ trucks to go to the cattle markets of their choice.
He said that the highway police would remain alert so that drugs traders cannot use cattle carrying vehicles or trucks for transporting drugs.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of highway police Mozammel Haque, officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's traffic division and General secretary of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Malik Samity Md Abdul Mannan and garment factory representatives attended the meeting.
