Normal procedures to be followed : ACC secy

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) secretary Mokhles ur Rahman Monday said normal procedures would be followed in investigating the corruption allegations brought against former Prime Minister and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina as being done in the cases of others, reports UNB.
"What happens to others normally, the same will happen (to her)," he said in the Commission's regular press briefing in reply to a query whether the ACC would investigate the corruption charges against Hasina in the wake of her arrest.
"She (Hasina) was not arrested in connection with any ACC case. There is no involvement with the ACC cases," Mokhles said, adding, "Today's incident does not belong to the ACC. It'll get shape gradually."
Responding to a question, he said, "I'm not talking about any post or position of an individual. The ACC is working independently. Wait and see. Law will take its own course."
Asked whether the corruption cases filed by the now-defunct Bureau of Anti-Corruption against Hasina would be revived, the ACC secretary said everything would be done in a normal process.
To another query, he said the ACC does not directly deal with the cases of extortion, rather these are handled by the police.
About the extortion case filed with Tejgaon police station earlier, Mokhles said he has no knowledge about that.
About the allegation against Faisal Mahmud Faizee, who has recently resigned as Supreme Court judge, he said the matter is already under investigation by the ACC's Chittagong office.
Asked to know the anti-graft watchdog's position on the Army Chief's recommendations to fight out corruption, the ACC secretary said, "We would have said if we had disagreed (with the Army Chief).
