N’ganj road crash kills 7

NARAYANGANJ, Aug 3 (Agencies): Seven people were killed and eight others injured when a vegetable-laden truck went down a ditch on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Rupganj upazila Saturday midnight.
Police said the accident took place when the Dhaka-bound truck from Sylhet carrying 15 people skidded off the road and fell into the ditch at Golakandail around 12am, killing the seven people on the spot and injuring the eight.
As the driver lost control, the truck veered off the road into the ditch and nearly half of the vehicle went under water.
Locals immediately started rescuing passengers.
Officials of the Fire Service and Civil Defence and police later joined them.
OC Asadauzzman said the truck was carrying vegetables from Bogra to Chittagong and picked up several passengers on the way.
Those killed were identified as Shushil Chandra Barman, 45, Swapan Chandra Barman, 16, Ripan Chandra Barman, 20, Shushil Chandra Barman, 32, Subrata Chandra Barman, 04, Dhanesh Chandra Barman, 40, and Babul Mandal, 35.
