Ocean survey ship gets going today

The first ocean fisheries research and survey ship of the country will be commissioned today (Saturday) to assess marine resources in the Bay of Bengal, officials said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the commissioning of the ship through a video conference from the capital.

 The 'RV Min Sandhani' will carry out survey and research for finding maritime resources.

Besides, it will also help assess fish species, their stocks and other marine resources in the Bay for the next 20-25 years uninterruptedly.Technical training has already been provided to its crew, according to the ministry of fisheries and livestock (MoFL).

The high-tech, multipurpose research vessel, whichis 37.8-metre long, will help exploit marine resources and improve the lifestyle of around 0.5 million people in the coastal areas who depend on fishing, an official of the MoFL told the FE.
